Navigate Training and Workshops
The Academic Success Center staff is available to offer workshops and training for faculty and staff on using Navigate and its various tools.
Workshops are broken down into experience level categories to help participants understand before signing up what level of familiarity they should have in advance of the session. This is only to help contextualize how advanced the workshop will be and is not intended to dissuade more advanced users from learning something new in the “NEW TO NAVIGATE” workshops, nor to prevent beginners from learning about more advanced functionality.
All workshop attendees should have completed the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Tutorial and Quiz on the Registrar’s Office webpage in advance of your scheduled workshop.
New To Navigate
Workshop: Navigate Information Meeting
Target Audience: Individuals who would like to explore Navigate tools and features prior to unit/office adoption
Topics Covered: This is a consultation session with an application administrator to find what tools in Navigate may help improve efficiency or workflows within a unit. Unit faculty/staff should arrange a time when multiple members of the unit (if applicable) can attend the session so activities across multiple roles can be considered.
Workshop: Intro to Navigate for Instructors
Target Audience: Course instructors and professors
Topics Covered: This session gives instructors and professors an introduction and overview to the tools in Navigate that are most relevant to them: alerts, class attendance, meetings/appointments, sending messages, notes, and progress reports.
Workshop: Intro to Navigate for Advisors
Target Audience: Advising faculty and staff
Topics Covered: This session gives advisors an introduction and overview to the tools in Navigate that are most relevant to them: alerts and cases, the various parts of the student profile, appointment scheduling, reporting on appointments, communicating with students, and recording and saving other notes about students.
Workshop: Appointment Scheduling in Navigate
Target Audience: Individuals who schedule appointments with students
Topics Covered: This session provides information faculty and staff who schedule appointments with students must know in order to use the Navigate platform to schedule appointments, including creating availability, syncing with a calendar (such as an FSMail calendar in Google), and scheduling meetings with students or opening availability for students to self-schedule appointments within your available time(s). Note: appointment scheduling in Navigate can support one-on-one and group appointments.
Workshop: Contacting Students Through Navigate
Target Audience: Individuals who send communication (mass or individual) to students
Topics Covered: This session provides tools available within Navigate to contact students through email or text message. We will also discuss ways to identify groups of students who meet various criteria in order to target messaging and policies relevant to mass communication through campus email and text message.
Familiar With Navigate
Workshop: Creating Student Lists in Navigate
Target Audience: Individuals who create or maintain lists of students for a variety of reasons including tracking progress of specific groups
Topics Covered: This session will demonstrate ways to identify students who meet certain criteria (e.g., major, minor, class standing, transfer status, grade point average, credits earned, grade[s] earned in specific classes, first generation status, etc.) and create lists within Navigate or for export to Excel. For example, the Academic Success Center searches for students who meets the cumulative GPA requirement and have earned an A or B in a specific course in order to generate lists of prospective tutors for departmental approval.
Workshop: Creating Appointment Campaigns
Target Audience: Individuals who need to schedule appointments with multiple students within a specific time period (e.g., during advising periods); individuals are strongly recommended to attend an “Appointment Scheduling in Navigate” session before this more advanced session
Topics Covered: This session will expand on the appointment scheduling tools available in Navigate and provide deeper insight into the Campaign tool that allows individuals to generate a calendar of availability that is sent to students to enable them to schedule appointments on their own within the given parameters. We will also demonstrate how to easily identify appointments scheduled vs. not scheduled, communicate with students who have or have not scheduled an appointment, and add or remove students from an existing appointment campaign. This tool is especially useful for advisors during advisement periods, instructors who require students enrolled in specific classes to schedule a meeting, or individuals who must meet with students who meet certain criteria. Note: Campaigns can support one-on-one and group appointments.
