Community Advisory Alert

September 25, 2024

Dear Bradley Campus Community:

A crime has recently occurred in the Bradley University campus area and we want you to be informed so you can take appropriate precautions. Advisory Alerts are issued for incidents that have already occurred but do not require immediate action by recipients.

At approximately 12:34 p.m., Bradley University Police and Peoria Police responded to a report of a battery and attempted robbery that had just occurred in the 800 block of N. Elmwood Avenue.

One suspect approached the student victim and demanded his property. A physical altercation then occurred and the victim was struck by a fist. The victim declined medical treatment. A second suspect was present but did not actively participate in the incident. Both suspects fled campus. Using the BUPD's security cameras, officers were able to quickly identify both suspects. The first suspect was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with aggravated battery and attempted robbery. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail. The second suspect was identified but does not face any criminal charges. Neither suspect is affiliated with Bradley University.

The arrested suspect is a 26 year old City of Peoria resident.

All evidence suggests this was an isolated incident. The Bradley campus remains safe.

I want to thank the responding officers, BUPD dispatchers and BUPD support staff who immediately responded and whose actions led to the quick arrest of the suspect. Our thoughts are with the student victim as they heal from this incident.

If you have any information regarding any crimes, please contact the Bradley University Police Department at (309) 677-2000, the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521, tip 411 (anonymously), or Crime Stoppers (anonymously) at (309) 673-9000.
