Bradley Adopts Sunflower Program to Support Those with Hidden Disabilities
Bradley University has announced the launch of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, an internationally recognized initiative designed to support individuals with hidden disabilities. The program, which provides sunflower lanyards or badges to students, faculty, and staff, enables those with non-visible disabilities to signal their need for additional assistance or understanding, as well as training for those who would like to assist.
With this program, Bradley is taking a significant step toward creating a more inclusive and supportive campus environment. Hidden disabilities such as ADHD, autism, chronic pain, and mental health conditions often go unrecognized, leading to misunderstandings and challenges. The Sunflower Program aims to bridge that gap by raising awareness and encouraging compassion across the university community.
Christina Webb, Executive Function Coach for Bradley’s Student Access Services, emphasized the program’s impact.
“The Sunflower Program gives students the confidence to advocate for themselves in situations where they might need extra time, assistance, or patience,” said Webb. “It's a simple yet powerful tool that fosters a sense of belonging and support for those whose challenges aren’t always visible.”
Bradley University is excited to integrate the Sunflower Program into its broader commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Student Support Services is dedicated to ensuring all students have the tools they need to thrive academically and personally.
