Elizabeth Rosenzweig

Biography

Elizabeth Rosenzweig is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) specializing in Auditory Verbal Therapy, a family-centered intervention to develop listening and spoken language skills for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. She is passionate about expanding possibilities for children with hearing loss, caregiver coaching, and preparing other SLPs and SLPs-to-be to do the same.  Prior to entering academia, Dr. Rosenzweig worked on the cochlear implant team at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and started a private practice serving children and families around the world via teletherapy.  As a scholar in the United States Department of Education-funded National Leadership Consortium in Sensory Disabilities (NLCSD), Dr. Rosenzweig earned her PhD in Physical Disabilities - Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Columbia University in 2020. Outside of work, she likes musical theatre, crafting, and reading nonfiction.

Teaching

"Dr. Rosenzweig's career in academia has included working with students from the undergraduate to doctoral level preparing them to serve as speech-language pathologists, teachers of the deaf, audiologists, occupational therapists, and other allied health and education professions in both in-person and distance learning environments. Regardless of degree, level, of modality, her philosophy remains the same: there is no teaching, only learning.  By creating a community of co-learners, she models best practices in lifelong learning and evidence-based practice for healthcare practitioners.

Scholarship

Rosenzweig's scholarship focuses on mixed-methods investigations of the effects of parent/caregiver coaching on improving outcomes for children with hearing loss. Quantitatively, she researchers the degree to which pre-service and in-service practitioners are prepared to provide caregiver coaching and interventions to improve their knowledge.  Qualitatively, she investigates the experiences of diverse parents of children with hearing loss, gathering insights to improve professional practice.

Service

Rosenzweig serves as the Secretary-Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Languages. She is an advisor for Escuchar sin Límites, an organization devoted to expanding access to information on hearing loss in the Spanish-speaking world.
